Harker Heights city councilman Sam Murphey was appointed mayor pro tem by a 5-0 vote of the city council at its Tuesday meeting. He replaces outgoing mayor pro tem John Reider, who served the past three years.

Murphey is entering the second year of his three-year term, which expires in May 2012. The man he replaces, John Reider, will continue to serve on the council. He was elected earlier this month to a second straight three-year term to Place 1, after running unopposed.

Reider was appointed by a unanimous vote of his fellow councilmenTuesday as a voting member to the Killeen-Temple Metropolitan Planning Organization (KTMPO) Policy Board. He was out of town Tueday and could not be at the meeting.

Councilman Pat Christ, who was elected to the Place 3 seat earlier this month, was appointed by his city’s Storm Water committee, also by a unanimous vote Tuesday.
